Victor Harbor fishes Encounter Bay for mullet, garfish and Australian salmon from the beaches and breakwater, with rock fishing around The Bluff for sweep and bigger fish and productive whiting and squid grounds in sheltered water.
Local Rules & Closures
Rock Lobster must not be taken from the Southern Zone from 6:00 pm 31 May to 6:00 am 1 October.

Mullet are the reliable South Australian everyday fish — found in bays, estuaries, beaches and rivers throughout the state. They school in shallow water, are easy to catch on light gear with fresh baits, and make a great first fish for kids, especially yellow-eye mullet that run up SA estuaries in numbers.

Sweep are the silver flashes around South Australia's rocky headlands, jetties and offshore reefs. They school in loose groups near structure, take small baits and lures enthusiastically, and fight well for their size on light gear. Smaller sweep are a great family species, with bigger fish a solid catch for experienced anglers.
Where to Fish
The rocky headland at the entrance to Encounter Bay - sweep, salmon and mulloway around the rocks, best fished in calm conditions with paternoster and metal lures.
How to Fish Here — Rigs
A whole pilchard threaded onto a string of ganged hooks — the classic rig for presenting a natural, fish-shaped bait that hooks salmon, mulloway and sharks wherever they strike the bait along its length.
The simplest and most natural presentation rig in fishing — a sinker that slides freely on the line so a fish can pick up the bait without feeling any weight. Perfect for finicky biters like whiting, bream and mullet.
