Overview
North Haven fishes the Port Adelaide river mouth and marina breakwater - King George Whiting, squid and tommy ruff in the gulf margins, with mulloway along the deeper channels. The inner Port River waterways are closed to fishing (Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary).
Local Rules & Closures
A closure in place since 1 May 2026 prohibits the targeting, take and possession of Southern Garfish in the Gulf St Vincent & Kangaroo Island fishing zone for recreational and charter boat fishing.
A total closure from 1 May 2026 prohibits the targeting, take and possession of Southern Calamari in the Gulf St Vincent & Kangaroo Island fishing zone for recreational and charter boat fishing.
Snapper fishing is closed until 30 June 2027: targeting, take and catch-and-release fishing are strictly prohibited. Do not transit through a closure area with Snapper on board — bringing Snapper back to any boat ramp in a closed area (including Cape Jervis, Wirrina and Penneshaw) is prohibited.
The targeting, take and possession of King George Whiting is prohibited in Gulf St Vincent and Spencer Gulf during the annual spawning closure (1 March – 30 June).
The inner waterways of the Port River (Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary) are permanently closed to all fishing. The breakwater and gulf margin remain open - check PIRSA's closure boundaries before fishing the river section.

What Can I Catch?
Mullet are the reliable South Australian everyday fish — found in bays, estuaries, beaches and rivers throughout the state. They school in shallow water, are easy to catch on light gear with fresh baits, and make a great first fish for kids, especially yellow-eye mullet that run up SA estuaries in numbers.
