Renmark is the Riverland's fishing hub - golden perch (Callop) around the riverfront snags and deep holes, with strictly catch-and-release Murray Cod in season. The Chowilla floodplain reach upstream is excluded from the cod catch-and-release season.

MURRAY COD - CHOWILLA FLOODPLAIN EXCLUSION

The Chowilla floodplain reach of the River Murray (Ral Ral Creek upstream to the SA-NSW border) is excluded from the Murray Cod catch-and-release season - no targeting Murray Cod there at any time.

MURRAY COD - NO TAKE; CATCH AND RELEASE SEASON

Taking Murray Cod is prohibited at all times from the River Murray proper. Catch and release fishing is permitted 1 January - 31 July (excluding the Chowilla floodplain reach); targeting is prohibited 1 August - 31 December. Barbless hooks and a knotless landing net are required - release fish immediately.

Chowilla Backwaters

RIVER BANK

The Chowilla anabranch country upstream of Renmark offers remote Callop fishing in billabongs and channels. The Chowilla floodplain reach is excluded from the Murray Cod catch-and-release season - no cod targeting year round.

Remote tracks and soft sand; check the Murray Cod closure boundary at Chowilla before fishing.
